For Christmas, Amy sent R. and I tickets to go see David Sedaris read at the State Theatre. In case I haven't mentioned her, Amy is my super genius NorthWestern University law student bestie that sends me the best presents ever. Did I mention we're meeting in South America this winter (my winter, her summer)? I mean after she sits the bar but before she saves the world working for a sooooper fancy law firm in D.C.? Yep, it's going to be pretty A O.K.
Anyhow, R. and I decided to make a weekend out of it.
Hesh morning train ride.

I finally got a chance to listen to last week's, "60 Minutes" with the feature on the campaign choices made by B. Obama, H. Clinton & J.McCain. Have you heard it yet? I mean wow.
We stayed at The Sheraton on the Park. It was pretty okay, the view was incredible and they had cable. You know I woke up at 6A.M. to watch the, "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" marathon. Wow layy-hame.

We went to a Japanese/Korean buffet for lunch. They also had pumpkin soup, it was weird but good.

We went to Chinatown and waited in line for cream puffs.

Then finally, after a nap/sushi coma and a swim we headed out to The State Theatre to see (in my best Oprah screaming voice..you know the one) MR. DAVID SEDARIS!!!!!!!!!!
He didn't allow photos (I mean would you want blurry iPhone photos of you on poorly written, insignificant blogs all over the Internet?!?!) but here is one of the ceiling in the foyer not as impressive but I liked it.

DS shared a number of stories, each very funny, none of which I had read/heard before. He is a very small man in stature, I was surprised by that but not with the amount of care in his word orchestration and placement of pauses. It was like each word, moment and breath was a newborn that he was gently placing in it's mother's arms. He answered questions after the reading and also spoke a bit on a number of subjects (Japan, his brother, traveling), he was just so clever and inspiring! Dying for his next set of moral-free fables (his words not mine) to be released.
After the reading, we weaved through drunk party goers, junkies and cops back to Chinatown for a late dinner.

Rodney ate while I yapped about how, "I think David and I could really be good friends" and, "I wonder where he's staying tonight?"..I mean if those aren't true words of a stalker, I don't know what are.
Straight back to the hotel for a cheesy Nic Cage movie then zzzzzville.

Am I creepy? I know, I totally agree.
On Sunday morning, we headed down to Pancakes on the Rocks for breakfast.

It's like popular or something. Want to hear something cute? Rodney's parents used to eat here after the disco in the seventies (it's open 24/7). I mean they're divorced now but it's cool, they're friends and it's still super cute.
Almost as cute as this kid waiting for his banana pancakes.

I mean, c'mon people, feed this Rarol!

The food was pretty delicious.

We walked off the food cramps at the markets, it was totally tourist city. P.S. Wanna move to The Rocks tomorrow?
Anyone?...anyone?

Thank you weekend, I'll see you soon!
xoxo
